The other reviews on this fan tell it like it is. The only thing I would add is that just because it is rated for bathrooms up to 45 SF does not mean you will be happy with the performance, as we are not. This is a good fan, but it does not do the job of getting the humid (and other!!!!) air out of our <40 sf bathroom either quickly or completely enough, as air goes into the hall as well as out of the house. The good news, which I will confirm upon proof, is that once the housing is in place, it looks like you can just buy a BFQ 75 or BFQ 90 which have higher amp motors and just swap the motor/blower assy out, which would take about 3.7 minutes including getting the ladder set up and down again. Bottom line: use this in a closet sized powder room, and don't kink your ductwork!

I bought this fan to replace a 20-yr old fan (typical cheap fan installed at construction time) that had finally started rattling and broke down..
The good news is that the fan is quiet, much quieter than the old one. We can have a normal conversation in the bathroom now!
The installation was tricky and cost me quite some sweat and head-scratching... As some reviewers have already pointed out, the theory behind the installation is sound, but unfortunately, it isn't that easy. In existing building with drywall on the ceiling, it is virtually impossible to hook it into the bottom of the bracket and rotate it up to snap it in. That requires a bigger hole than I was willing to cut. I had to take the plastic duct attachment off to create some extra space, and carefully enlarge the hole a tiny bit to let the tabs for the duct attachment go through. Sound complicated, but you'd know immediately what I meant if you saw the fan.
In any case, with the hole slightly larger all around (about 1/8" clearance all around), I was able to wiggle the fan in from the bottom, hook it into the bottom of the bracket and snap it up. The rest was simple. I'm not an electrician, but it took me 5 mins for the electricity, 10 mins to attache some new ducting (replace 3" with 4"), and a couple of hours to fit the fan.. Would have gone faster if I had not had to crawl in the attic from one side of the house to the other every time I needed to go up or down..
I do not agree that the joist bracket is weak. Yes, you can bend it, but it does not seem weaker than any other bracket to me. Just don't go wild and you'll be fine.
In all, it take more than 10 minutes to install, but we're happy with the fan. I WILL order another one, but this time, I'll be prepared better anf it will go faster..

This fan works well (and quietly!) once installed... but the installation is the challenge. I was replacing and existing 35-year old metal Air King exhaust fan.
This fan mounts to the side of a ceiling joist using a thin metal L-shaped bracket. The side of the bracket, with a lip to hang the fan bottom, is flush with the ceiling and nailed to the beam. The top of the bracket extends several inches, and catches on a tab extending out of the top of the fan housing. The theory is that you hook the side of the bracket with the fan bottom, and swing up until the top snaps in place. In practice however, it doesn't work. First the duct connection extends past the side of the housing, meaning that you'd have to cut an extras two inches of ceiling out if you were to "swing" this into place in existing construction. (It might be removable, but that would defect the purpose somewhat). It is difficult if not impossible to hang the fan from above with the bracket already attached. And second, the metal bracket is thin and bends easily, making the top snapping into place a very weak connection. It took a fair amount of maneuvering from the attic side to get the fan mounted in place- this isn't a 30 minute project.
Once the fan is installed however, it operates very effectively and quietly. Far quieter than the 35-year old fan it replaced.
